2d animation is a versatile and captivating medium. It is used in a variety of applications, including tv shows, video games, feature films, advertisements, mobile apps, and websites. Its enduring popularity is due to its scalability, accessibility, and ability to convey emotionally resonant stories and messages. 2D animation is also a powerful tool for metaphorical storytelling and allegorical representations of complex concepts.
The 2D animation process has 3 main stages: pre-production, production, and post-production. During the pre-production stage, animators create characters and a storyboard, design the backgrounds, choose color palettes, and record a voiceover for the video.
During the production process, animators make rough sketches of each frame using pencil drawings, then clean up and polish each drawing using computer software (called tracing) to get rid of the rough sketch marks. Next, the animator fills in each frame of the animation with a sequence of images that slightly differ from each other to create the illusion of movement and shape change. This step is called tweening, and it can be difficult because animators have to carefully animate each character so that they move in a natural way.
After the tweening is done, the animator colors each frame in the final sequence using the appropriate palette to match the style of the video. This process can be tedious, but it’s crucial to ensure the consistency of the animation. Finally, sound effects and a well-matched soundtrack add to the emotional impact of 2D animation pictures and further enhance the viewer’s experience. 2d animation
