What companies are in one-north?

As one of Singapore’s premier business parks and a high-tech research and development hub, one-north is home to numerous well-known companies and key science & research institutes. A major draw for the park is that it is also close to several top universities and institutes of higher learning, providing ample opportunities for collaborations.

Among the many companies in one-north are leading companies in biomedical sciences, information-communication technology (ICT) and media industries, as well as scientific institutions such as A*STAR. It is also the headquarters of P&G Innovation Centre and The Walt Disney Company (Southeast Asia).

There are many reasons why companies choose to set up in one-north. The vibrant culture, proximity to key industry players and the ability to attract talent from around the world make it a preferred location for companies that want to stay on the cutting edge of their field.

A thriving community is another big draw for companies in one-north, which is home to cafes, supermarkets, enrichment schools for children and gyms. Even in the evening, lunch and dinner crowds are often spotted at The Star Vista, which is a shopping mall that opened in 2014 and houses food outlets such as Nando’s, Jamaica Blue and Cedele.

The Star Vista has become a hotspot for locals who are out of the office and looking for casual and affordable dining options. Located at the corner of Buona Vista and one-north MRT stations, the mall is surrounded by cafes and eateries.

Those who like to workout can head to Fitness First and Metropolis, both of which have gyms. There are also a number of outdoor sports facilities in the area, such as jogging tracks and sheltered plazas.

Some of the historical buildings in the 200ha one-north neighbourhood are also worth exploring. Starting at Rochester Park, off North Buona Vista Road, you can find many black-and-white bungalows that were once military barracks. These have been refurbished for adaptive reuse and are now home to restaurants and lifestyle spots.

These heritage buildings are a great place to get away from the humdrum and reconnect with nature. They are dotted throughout the 200ha one-north estate and are a reminder of the city’s roots, says Mrs Bornhoeft.

She and her husband, who works for a healthcare company, are glad that they chose one-north to settle down as the location is smart and easy to get around.

They love that their apartment at One North Residences is just a lift ride away from Meraki Yoga, where they go for yoga classes. She and her husband also enjoy taking walks in the nearby parks.

As an ex-pat, Mrs Bornhoeft says she is happy that she has a great place to call home. She and her husband are also happy that their kids can learn and play in the safe environment that one-north offers.

As the economy rebounds, more and more start-ups are setting up their offices in one-north, creating a vibrant tech ecosystem. For example, game developer FireForge has a one-north branch and the team is currently expanding in Singapore. The company’s head of Asia, Khoo Yik Lin, explains that his main motivation was the proximity to other start-ups. the hill one north condo
